Sauber have announced that reserve driver Esteban Gutierrez and Dutch hopeful Robin Frijns will form the line-up for the team’s young driver test at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina circuit next month in the week following the 2012 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Frijns will be driving on Tuesday, November 6, the first day of testing. The 21-year-old won the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup in 2011 and this weekend will be contesting the title in the 2012 Formula Renault 3.5 World Series at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya in Spain. Frijns is five points adrift of the championship leader going into the deciding round.
For Gutierrez, the Abu Dhabi test will mark his fourth outing with Sauber since his Formula One debut in late 2009. The 21-year old Mexican joined the Swiss team as an affiliated driver and has been their official reserve since 2011. He will be testing on Wednesday, November 7 and Thursday, November 8.
The other teams expected to join Sauber for the Yas Marina test are Red Bull, McLaren, Lotus, Toro Rosso and Caterham. The remainder of the grid carried out their young driver sessions earlier in the year at Magny-Cours in France and Silverstone in the UK.
